"Seven Steps to Eternal Life"

Jesus Prayed For You

Just prior to His betrayal and arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed for Himself and His disciples, that eternal life would be given to those whom God had given to Him. He said, "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:3)

Desiring Christ

Everyone who desires to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and enter into eternal life must accept Him as Lord and Savior. This requires going through the process of transformation from the mortal nature to the Divine nature that only Christ can give.

ONLY 7 STEPS

"Seven Steps to Eternal Life" is attempting to provide a path that will lead the diligent seeker through the process of entering into eternal life. We are inviting you to join us on this journey of faith and experience the hope that salvation brings.

Step 1:

Acknowledgement of my sinful state

The First Step To Eternal Life

My Sinful State

"The initial and crucial step on the road to salvation is acknowledging that 'all have sinned' (Romans 3:23). Sin is a shared human experience and is defined as 'lawlessness' (1 John 3:4). The journey to Christ finds a profound example in the life of David."

1 of 8

David Sinned

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. (1 John 3:4)

David, in the book of Psalms, said, "For I acknowledge my ____________, and my sin is always before me" (Psalms 51:3). He understood the need to admit his sins and seek forgiveness from God. Required field!

How did David describe his birth?

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Psalm 51: 5

Answer: "Behold, I was brought forth in ____________, and in sin my mother conceived me" Required field!

What did David asked God to do for him?

"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow" (Psalm 51:7)

"_______ me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; ________ me, and I shall be whiter than snow" (Psalm 51:7) Required field!

Another example of one coming to Christ is the Prodigal Son. When he was lost in a far country, away from his father, he said,

18. I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19. and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” Luke 15:18-19

I will ____________ and go to my father, and will say to him, ’Father, I have ______________ against heaven and before you, and I am no longer ___________ to be called your son. Make me like one of your ____________ servants" (Luke 15:18, 19). Required field!

What was the father’s response?

So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. (Luke 15:20)

So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with ________________ for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and ____________ him. Required field!

When Israel drifted from God, the prophet Jeremiah extended to them repentance. What needed to precede repentance?

Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the Lord. Jeremiah 3:13

Only __________ your iniquity, that you have ____________ against the Lord your God...“ (Jeremiah 3: 13) Required field!

Before we can truly come to Jesus Christ, we must recognize that we are lost in sin.

It is the Holy Spirit that raises our consciousness of sin and He will lead us to the second step of repentance.

By Commitment

I acknowledge that I am a sinner, in need of the Savior. I seek the salvation of my soul, and so I am asking Jesus Christ that, through His grace, He may come into my heart and lead me to salvation. Amen.

Step 2:

"Repent!"

The Second Step To Eternal Life

The second step on the road to salvation is Repentance.

On the day of Pentecost, Peter, being filled with the Holy Spirit, preached with power concerning Jesus Christ. The multitude heard him and were pricked in their hearts, so they asked, "What shall we do?" (Acts 2:37) Peter answered emphatically, "Repent!" (Acts 2:38).

What is repentance? Repentance is a genuine sorrow for sin and a turning away from it.

1 of 7

It is not enough to only be sorry for our sins. Judas Iscariot was sorry for his sin in the betrayal of Jesus Christ.

“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood” (Matthew 27:4). For repentance to be complete one must seek to have a change of direction. Peter’s instruction to the sinners at Pentecost was: "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord." Acts 3:19

“Repent therefore and be _______________, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19). Required field!

Genuine repentance will result in a radical change in one’s attitude towards God and sin. What is the result of genuine repentance?

He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.. Proverbs 28:13

He who ____________ his sins will not prosper, But whoever __________ and ____________ them will have mercy. Required field!

God is calling everyone to repent.

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, (Acts 17:30)

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to _______, (Acts 17:30) Required field!

How are we led to repentance?

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? Romans 2:4

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the ________________ leads you to repentance? Required field!

What is the attitude of heaven toward a repentant sinner?

I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. (Luke 15:7)

“I say to you that likewise there will be more __________________ in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety- nine _____________ ____________ who need no repentance” (Luke 15:7). Required field!

Read the experience of David in Psalms 51:1-14. It clearly describes the state of mind of a person who has genuinely repented.

My Commitment

Having acknowledged my sinful state, I now repent of my sins and by the grace of a loving Savior, seek to live according to His Word. Amen.

Step 3:

Confession

The Third Step To Eternal Life

The third step one must take on the road to salvation is Confession.

Confession is the verbal acknowledgment of the guilt of sin and a willingness to do that which is right. Solomon, who truly understood what confession was all about, said, "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy" (Proverbs 28: 13).

1 of 7

As a prerequisite to the forgiveness of sin, what has God called on us to do?

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

"If we _____________ our sins, He is ______________ and j ust to forgive us our sins and to _____________ us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Required field!

While God requires us to confess our sins to Him, who else should we confess to?

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16

Confess your trespasses to __________________, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16) Required field!

The Psalmist David instructed us on how to receive forgiveness.

"I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah" (Psalm 32:5)

I ______________________ my sin to You, And my ____________________ I have not hidden. I said, “I will __________________________ my transgressions to the Lord,” And You _________________________ the iniquity of my sin. Selah Required field!

How did many people from Jerusalem, Judea, and the region around Jordan responded to John’s preaching?

... and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. (Matthew 3:6)

Required field!

Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were _______________ by him in the Jordan, ___________________ their sins. (Matthew 3:5-6) Required field!

Confession is like opening the door of your heart to God, unveiling your deepest secret to Him. Only the Lord of heaven and earth can forgive sin, therefore to Him only we must go with our faults.

MY COMMITMENT

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge my transgressions before You and I have repented of my sins. I now confess them all to You and ask that You will cleanse me of all my sins. Amen.

Step 4:

Conversion

The Fourth Step To Eternal Life

The fourth step on the road to salvation is Conversion.

Conversion is a change of lifestyle, a deep commitment to a transformation of character into the divine nature. David said, "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.’ (Psalm 51:5) This experience came as a result of the fall of man. (See Genesis chapters 2 and 3.) To please God, mankind must experience a change of nature. There must be a change from the carnal nature to the spiritual nature (Romans 7: 13-25).

1 of 7

What is the true condition of the heart of mankind?

“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9

"The heart is _______________ above all things, and ______________ wicked; who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). Required field!

The Prophet Ezekiel spoke of the transformation that will take place in the converted heart.

I will give you a _______________ and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a _______________. (Ezekiel 35:26) Required field!

The experience of Nicodemus is very illustrative of the process of conversion.

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3: 5-6)

What else did Jesus say we have to do?

...and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3)

... and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are _________________ and become as little children, you will by no means ______________ the kingdom of heaven. Required field!

What are the requirements for the blotting out of sins?

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, (Acts 3:19)

_________________ therefore and be ________________, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, Required field!

What is the result of being in Christ?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a _____________ creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17) Required field!

MY COMMITMENT

Having acknowledged my sinfulness and having repented and confessed all my sins, I now ask God to give me a clean heart and a new spirit so that I may receive power to do His will. Amen.

Step 5:

Justification

The Fifth Step To Eternal Life

The fifth step on the road to salvation is Justification.

The fifth step on the road to salvation is Justification.

Very often when one comes to Jesus Christ with the burdens of sin, one fails to accept the promises that God has made for the repentant sinner. To accept salvation means that one must take Christ at His word. The Philippian Jailor experienced salvation by his belief. The Bible states, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31).
